Maxwell Air Force Base is located in Montgomery, the capital of Alabama. Montgomery is 90 miles south of Birmingham via I-65 and 160 miles southwest of Atlanta via I-85. The base is close to the state buildings. The easy access allows many people to come to the airshow.

The 2004 airshow was held for two days in June. The USAF Thunderbirds came. Unfortunately, their flight on the second day was cancelled due to a storm warning.

The 2006 airshow was held on April 8. Unfortunately, the weather was not good in the early morning because there was a severe thunderstorm. The weather becomes OK in the afternoon.

F-86North American F-86 Saber

The F-86, the USAF's first swept-wing jet fighter, made its initial flight in 1947 and saw service in Korea. It is an old airplane and usually can be found in museums like this. It flies like this.

C-5Lockheed C-5 Galaxy

The C-5 is huge, so that it can carry tanks as is. Although we can usually find statically displayed C-5's in airshows, it is a little bit difficult to take good pictures due to their size.

Pilots and crew climb the ladder shown on the right-hand side in the nose to go to their cockpit or cabin, which has a rest room.

C-17Boeing C-17 Globemaster III

The C-17 is the newest USAF cargo aircraft. The C-17 made its maiden flight in 1991 and the first production model was delivered in 1993. The C-17 has winglets, which are rare for cargo planes.

F4U-5NVought F4U-5N Corsair

The second day of the airshow, June 6 was D-Day. There were so many WW II aircraft. They also flied.

The Corsair is a fighter developed in the closing days of WW II. The A-7 has the same name.

The Dauntless is a dive bomber.

B-17Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress

The B-17 is an old bomber. We can see them in the movie "Memphis Belle."

Golden KnightsGolden Knights

The Golden Knights, the U.S. Army Parachute Team, usually jump in the beginning of airshow performances when they come. One crew member carries a U.S. flag and approaches the ground when the Star Spangled Banner Is being sung.

In the 2006 airshow, the weather was not good in the morning. The  Thunderbirds started to fly at around 2:00 pm as the first performers. The Golden Knights came during the airshow.
