If an airshow is held in a base, Fat Albert demonstrates its Jet-Assisted Take-Off (JATO) capability. Eight small solid-fuel rockets are attached to the sides of the aircraft, four on each side. When they are ignited, Fat Albert takes off like a fighter.

Fat Albert is the only Marine Corps aircraft permanently assigned to a Navy Squadron for support. It is operated by an all-Marine Corps crew.
