Meridian, MS, USA — April 2004
NAS Meridian is located in the upcountry of Mississippi, no big rivers and no ocean. The Blue Angels came. They were good as usual, but unfortunately only five of them flew. Although the airshow had relatively a small number of airplanes, I also enjoyed napping lying down on the grass. Although many people usually stay under airplanes during airshows to avoid the direct sunshine, we were not supposed to do so in this airshow. This restriction was good for taking pictures.
This F-5E looks like Russian, but this is a U.S. built fighter from an aggressor squadron. The F-5E was used as the "MiG-28" in "Top Gun." Many F-5's were sold to other countries including Canada.
McDonnell Douglas/Boeing F/A-18A+ Hornet
The F/A-18 entered service in 1983. The F/A-18E is an improved variant of the F/A-18A.
The pod under the fuselage is an external fuel tank.
North American/Rockwell T-2C Buckeye
The first T-2C flew in 1958. The T-2C shares its wing with the FJ-1 Fury, one of the Navy's earliest jet fighters.
McDonnell Douglas/Boeing AV-8B Harrier II
The AV-8B can be fly like a helicopter by changing the angles of its four exhaust nozzles. The AV-8B appeared in "True Lies." The Harrier was originally developed in U.K., and this improved version is made in the United States.
We could not enter the inside this time, but this was good for taking pictures.
