Eglin AFB, FL, USA — April 2004
The Air Force Armament Museum is next to Eglin Air Force Base, near the main gate (west gate). However, you cannot directly go there from the gate due to the traffic lanes. You do not miss the museum easily if you pass the in front of the museum because there are many aircraft around the building. The admission is free. The museum has only one building, where four airplanes are displayed. The souvenir shop does not have many things.
The F-105 flew combat missions over Vietnam.
The airframe of this SR-71 is very clean in spite of the outdoor display. You may think that the shape of this aircraft is a little bit strange.
The SR-71 (or the original model A-12) is displayed at two different places in Alabama: one in the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, Huntsville in front of the entrance (the condition is not very good) and the other in the USS Alabama Battleship Museum, Mobile. Another is in Museum of Aviation, Georgia.
Lockheed P-80/F-80 Shooting Star
The P-80/F-80 was the first American jet airplane to be manufactured in large quantities and the first USAF jet to be used in combat. The T-33 was developed based on the Shooting Star.
AGM-88A HARM (High-speed AntiRadiation Missile)
The HARM is a supersonic air-to-surface tactical missile designed to seek and destroy enemy radar-equipped air defense systems. There were a lot of missiles, bombs and guns, as shown in the name of the museum.
